“You can be sure that the American spirit will prevail over this tragedy.” – Colin Powell

I’ll never forget where I was, I’ll never forget what I was doing, and I’ll never forget how scared I was for everyone…I will NEVER forget 9/11. RIP to all the fallen heroes. Gone but never forgotten. #neverforget

Second Year Reflections…

Two Years ago Hurricane Irene slammed the east coast with record winds and flooding touching down in NYC and NJ the very same day of my wedding, 8/28/11.   I’ll never forget the week leading up to the wedding with guests, vendors, and friends calling to cancel travel plans and the impending storm threatening to cancel my wedding up to the very last moment.

Despite the 24/7 media coverage of Irene, and the heavy storm, lack of power in my venue, and every other challenge that seemed to arise that day- somehow we moved forward with our plans, and I married my best friend.  I learned a very valuable life lesson that day on perspective.  I was going to get married on 8/28 whether it was in our hotel room with no power, hair or makeup done, floral, or anything else. I was with my best friend, my rock, and that’s all that mattered. Eventually the storm passed, we even have our outdoor photos to prove it! We had the best time celebrating that night with friends and family, and it’s been an amazing two years.

The lesson behind my wedding tale as I sit here reflecting, is that sometimes as hectic and crazy as life gets, you need to look back and evaluate what’s truly important and prioritize.  Focus on the things that matter and really evaluate and prioritize your life.  Most people do prioritize, but only things like work, vacation, but very few people prioritize what really matters, which is a shame.  It seems to be an ongoing life lesson, which i’m sure I will revisit for many years to come but on a very special day, I wanted to share my thoughts. I’ll let Albert Einstein take it away below…

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Stop Fighting Social Media Marketing and Try to Visualize the Impacts with a Nifty Infographic

I’m a huge believer in social media (shocking I know!) but as the industry continues to expand and the social media “bubble” continues to bloom people want proof to backup the statement that it indeed social media does work.  How you measure the sucess and ROI of social media may vary, but needless to say often ROI can be seen in things such as website referral traffic, lead generation, sales, and so much more.

A website I visit daily, Social Media Examiner released its fifth annual 2013 Social Media Marketing Industry Report back in May of 2013 which aimed to understand how marketers are using social media.   Over 3,000 marketers provided feedback, and some of the major findings are beyond powerful.  My top two findings from the report are below:

1) 86% of marketers indicate that social media is important for their business, up from 83% in 2012.

2) Increased exposure is the top benefit of social media marketing: A significant 89% of marketers stated that increased exposure was the number one benefit of social media marketing.

Wishpond, a maker of online marketing tools, created an infographic which nicely illustrates the study’s results.  As social media marketing continues to grow, this 43-page report makes the benefits of social media and future planning easily digestible. The Infographic below really speaks for itself with the top benefits achieved in social media in 2013.

I found this report very valuable and insightful, check out the infographic and report and let me know what you think in the comments section below…

Happy Reading!

Social Media Revolution

The power of social media is it forces necessary change.- Erik Qualman

One of the most powerful and impactful video’s i’ve ever seen was created by international best selling author and keynote speaker Erik Qualman.  Social Media Revolution 4 is one of the most social-media watched video’s in the world with over 317k views (hence four installments).

The most powerful stat in my opinion is that Social Media has now become the #1 activity on the Web. For those of you who aren’t “sold” or ready to commit to social media, I urge you to watch the short 4 minute video, and I’m sure you’ll be as blown away by some of the stats, as they really speak for themselves:

1. Social media has overtaken porn as the No. 1 activity on the Web. (source)

2. If Facebook was a country, it would be the world’s third largest and twice the size of the U.S. population. (source)

3. Roughly two new member joins LinkedIn every second. (source)

4. Lady GagaJustin Bieber and Britney Spears have more Twitter followers than the entire populations of North Korea, Australia, Chile, Israel, Sweden, Greece … (source)

5. 69 percent of parents are “friends” with their children on social media. (source)

6. If Wikipedia was made into a book, it would be 2.25 million pages long. (source)

Enjoy 🙂

Tweepi Twitter Follow Management

Tweepi

This all in one tool helps me everyday to do some of the cleanup involved in my social media job duties.  This is one of the best tool’s i’ve found to help manage any Twitter account, and best part is, the free tool has more than enough helpful features! Within Tweepi you can quickly follow & unfollow users, follow lists, and so much more! Identifying influencers and through leaders is so important- especially when they have fantastic and relevant lists built within their Twitter account.  I typically go through and follow users and lists as often as I can.  Keep in mind twitter maintains limits of how many you can follow and unfollow within a certain day- so a good rule of thumb is no more than 1,000 a day!

Twiends

This community building tool provides quick introductions to people looking to develop relationships with those of similar interests on both Twitter & Instagram.  The program uses “seeds” to help people to check each other out. When you follow someone they give you seeds, and vice-versa when they follow you. When you setup your account you set the amount of seeds you want per introduction.  You setup 5 interests and quickly find related accounts with those listed.  In live time you can follow users- and see them following you back.  The tool makes it fun having them float in live time up the right hand side of your team! This allows quick growth for your twitter account, but be warned, the user accounts are not always as relevant as the interests searches which they come up in,

Buffer

This life-saving tool is so helpful for those of you who don’t always have time throughout the day to update the world with your 140 character thoughts! Buffer lets you download a icon which lives on your browser’s toolbar which allows you to quickly create tweets as your searching the web.  It connects with your Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn account allowing you to have a consistent social media presence all week long! The upgraded version ($10 a month) allows you to connect up to 12 social media networks and set set-times to optimize your messaging.  The free version maxes out at 10 messages, and allows you to set up to 4 posting times, and also provides full analytics.
